The History of Stone
Stone is one of the world’s oldest building materials, appreciated for its strength and durability.
Its various forms give life and soul to some of human civilisation’s most iconic architecture, from the Parthenon in Greece, the Basilica of the Virgin Mary and the Colosseum in ancient Rome to the Forbidden City in Beijing, 12th-century Gothic architecture and 19th-century classical architecture.
In modern days commercial and residential buildings, stones are widely used as decorative claddings and tiles. Stone’s natural characteristics make it a unique and environmentally friendly building material.
Our stone is produced with a purely physical cutting process, without using any explosives or chemicals. This makes our products an ideal low carbon building material for use in interior design, wall cladding and floor paving.
In fact, many well-known commercial buildings and homes across major Australian cities use natural stone – both internally and externally. Yet almost all Australian architectural stone is imported from overseas.
With extensive industry experience and global networks, ASG is committed to growing Australia’s national capacity in the sector and unlocking its potential to produce and supply local stone products throughout the world.
